July Planning

TAKING A MONTH OFF

Last week, I was talking with a couple of leaders in the South, who both told me:

We take the month of July off of events and programming.

We don't schedule anything. We skip our monthly meeting.

We still come to the office, but we use all of July as a planning month.

A full month without events or programming?

An entire, delicious month, light on meetings, for thinking and strategizing and planning?

An opportunity check in, reset, and re-align on goals midway through the year?

Brilliant.

Even if we can't take the entire month of July for planning (#goals), here are some things that we can do.

THINGS WE CAN DO IN JULY

Check in on our Big Rocks for 2023.

  • What goals or intentions did we set at the beginning of the year?

  • How are we doing?

  • What do we want to celebrate?

  • What have we learned?

Consider our Key Priorities for the second half of the year.

  • What feels most meaningful between now and December 2023?

  • What are our Big Rocks for the second half of the year?

  • Where do we need to adjust or pivot?

Consider a few Summer Intentions.

  • What are the handful of things we'd most like to do (or not do) this summer?

  • What could it look like to write them down and make them happen?

What do you think of this idea of a July Planning Month?

Do you do anything along these lines?

If so, feel free to share within the comments.
