Exploring “Rest”

What does it Really Mean to Rest? (Self)

"To figure out what rest means for you, you have to check in with yourself a lot."

In summary, the 7 Types of Rest that Every Person Needs (per this article) are:

  • Physical

  • Mental

  • Sensory

  • Creative

  • Emotional

  • Spiritual

What type of rest are you currently craving?

Do you consider yourself to be good at rest?

  • Do you enjoy resting?

  • Does it come easily to you?

  • Do you do it regularly?

This has been a topic of exploration with several friends and clients recently.

Here are some conclusions we've drawn so far:

  • Rest does not necessarily come naturally to many of us, but it can be practiced.

  • “Fun” and “Rest” may have points of overlap, but they are not the same. (Thank you, C, for this insight.)

  • It can be helpful to have a container in which rest happens (whether a metaphorical container such as  a time on the calendar, or a literal container, such as the bathtub).

What else would you add to this list?

What is your favorite way to incorporate rest into your day(s)?
