Conflict is often not a result of what is being said or even what is happening, but rather misaligned expectations about what we thought was going to be happening.

Creating clarity up front is a helpful way to create more freedom for everyone involved down the line.

A few examples:

  • If we have a person in our life who often crosses boundaries, and then afterward we feel upset or resentful, what could it look like to reset expectations with this person up front, about what is appropriate, and what isn't, and then clearly and lovingly hold these boundaries?

  • If we find ourselves answering the same question over and over again via email, what could it look like to pause and create a quick 1-pager or FAQ document? 

  • If we know that most of our team members do their best heads-down, solo work first thing in the morning, what could it look like to redesign our team-wide expectations for meetings, so that we don't schedule meetings prior to 9 or 10 am?

Creating clarity up front often creates a greater sense of freedom in the future. 

 A question to ponder: what is one small, but significant way that you could create freedom through clarity in the days and weeks ahead?
