I recently found myself answering some questions from a potential client about the coaching process.

  • What makes a client successful with coaching?

  • What are the qualities of those who get the most out of the process?

  • And what can I do to set myself up for success?

They are good questions. Some thoughts in response, below.

What are the qualities of clients who are most successful in the coaching process?

They are deeply committed to the process, passionate, smart, driven, open to new possibilities, willing to put in the work to make it happen, willing to look closely at fears/limiting beliefs/things that might be in the way, creative, resourceful, solutions-oriented, forward looking.

WHAT ARE SOME POSSIBLE CHALLENGES OR FRUSTRATIONS I MIGHT ENCOUNTER ALONG THE WAY?

It can be uncomfortable to look at things that we haven’t looked at before - maybe ever. Sometimes, it can also be uncomfortable and scary to look at things that are possible - especially if we’ve never seen them as possibilities before. But the impact can be magic.

One of my clients recently shared the following, “Thanks for pushing me to do this really hard thing. It's unearthing a lot of stuff for me that I was ignoring.”

HOW CAN I PREPARE TO BE AS SUCCESSFUL AS POSSIBLE IN THE PROCESS?
