Let August be August

How is August going for you so far?

These words, by Morgan Harper Nichols, have been popping up a lot lately.

Let July be July. Let August be August.
and let yourself just be even in the uncertainty.
You don't have to fix everything.
You don't have to solve everything.
And you can still find peace
and grow
in the wild
of changing things.

I can't necessarily say that I've been doing a great job of this lately.

Summer is my jam, my vibe, my euphoric happy place.

A time of working from my outdoor office as frequently as possible, or at least until my laptop overheats. . . the pure bliss of hot, humid, summer nights. . . grill-outs and dinners on the deck and splashes in the pool.

This year, summer has felt a bit different.

WHY HAS IT FELT DIFFERENT?

Maybe it's the usual summer feelings of “where did July go?” and “how is it August already?” that seem to increase with age.

Maybe it's the lingering construction project we have going on, which was supposed to be finished in April, and is still dragging on day-by-day, where nothing has gone as planned, or as promised.

Maybe it's the fact that it's our first summer without Mimi —and that our family is finding our new rhythms and routines for summer meet-ups, now that we no longer have Mimi's Pool as our central gathering place, or Mimi to share Cheetos and stories with.

Maybe it's simply being busy with both “work stuff” and “life stuff" and being in a time of transition.

Maybe it's the ominous hazy cloud that has lingered, as the wildfires in Canada continue to burn

Maybe it's hitting harder now that it's August, which I just heard described as “the Sunday of the year—the languor and the dread, both.” (hat tip: Erin Boyle for passing along this gem.)

Let July be July and August be August

Whatever the cause of the funky summer vibes, I'm working on letting July be July and August be August and appreciating this summer for what it is, and has been –even if that has been slightly less euphoric-feeling than usual.

How about you –how has summer been for you?

Euphoria, languor, or somewhere in between?

Bright and sunny? Or cloudy and hazy?

Whatever it has felt like for you, I hope you are finding moments of peace along the way.

Thank you, as always, for being here and for being part of the community.

Questions to Consider:

1. What could it look like to “let July be July and August be August?”

2. Where might I benefit from a bit more action?

3. Where might I benefit from a bit more surrender or release?

4. What has been a highlight of the summer so far?
