SITTING AT A SOLID B
How are you?
(No really, as in....how are you?)
My answer lately has been along the lines of a ‘solid B.’ Or, ‘an inoffensive but pleasant shade of gray.’ Nothing too shiny or flashy or bright but nothing too dark or grimy either.
It’s not an A+ and it’s not an F; it’s not bright sunny yellow but it’s also not a shade of brown with a yellow or green undertone.
Anyone else hovering in the range of B+ to B- these days?
If so, you’re not alone. Talking to a dear friend yesterday, she described her own state as “incredibly ordinary.” Another recently shared a favorite recent daily activity called, “staring at the wall.” And, another dear one shared that finally, the collective impact of not being able to do much of anything - even the incredibly “normal” things like lingering in a coffee shop - is finally starting to take a toll.
Back in August, we learned that our surge capacity had been depleted. It’s February now, and it still is.
The good news is that we aren’t alone. According to research and input from experts in the mental health field, many people are starting to hit the “pandemic wall.” And how could we not be? We’ve been at this for nearly a year now.
So if you, too, are hovering somewhere around a solid B with no clear path to an A+ in sight, you are not alone. And, I’m right there with you.
Speaking of not being a solid A+, while the boil water notice was just lifted in Texas, many are dealing with broken pipes and water damage. A couple ways to support:
World Central Kitchen is currently deployed in Texas and serving meals.
Feeding Texas is also accepting donations to help food banks support warming shelters, replace perished food, and feed Texans in need.
