What are you looking forward to?

What are you currently looking forward to?

In 2022, during a visit with my aunt on her brown oversized couch, over deli subs and shrimp cocktail, she shared with me that she always has something to look forward to. Often, it's something small: lunch or coffee with a friend, or getting her nails done.

The way I interpreted it, this was her key to happiness: always having something to look forward to.

At the time, I wasn't sure what I thought about this idea…

  • Does always having something to look forward to take us out of the present?

  • Does it mean we're “future tripping”?

  • Does looking forward to tomorrow pull us out of today?

However, since this conversation, I've come to really appreciate her philosophy.

The world can feel heavy.

We are living through complex and uncertain times—globally, and even in how we think about the future of work and technology. There's a lot to hold.

So, why not have something (or a few things) to look forward to?

As leaders, this might be more important than ever: creating small points of light, not just for ourselves, but for the people we lead

Here are a few things on my list.

  • “Tuesday Swim” —a new rhythm that has revolutionized my feelings about Tuesdays. In short, it involves 4-5 short, stacked swimming lessons on Tuesday evenings for kids, followed by dinner and hangout time for both kids and adults.

  • April as “Birthday Month” (my own, and lots of people I love) —plus, the vibrant spring energy of the month of April.

  • Joyful Upcoming Client Work in April and May —from exec coaching, to senior leadership team offsites, and a number of things in between.

What's on your list?

I'd love to hear, if you'd like to reply and share.
