the ice cream truck: BEING CURIOUS VS BEING RIGHT

Acceptance and understanding are different than agreement, even when it comes to the ice cream truck . . .

There was a lively discussion on our neighborhood Facebook page. It started like this. 

“How do I find out the ice cream truck schedule? I hear it but don't make it. Also want to see the menu first? Any ideas?”

Some people said things along these lines: 

“When I lived elsewhere, the ice cream truck had a FB page and you could message them during business hours and ask them to come to your neighborhood. I used to do it as a surprise or during parties.”

Others had different perspectives:

“Schedule? Menu? Huh.”

 And, this. . . 

"Half the fun of the ice cream truck is the surprise. I don't want to live in a world where ice cream trucks run on schedules."

As with nearly everything in our world these days, there are vastly different perspectives on the ice cream truck. 

Some would prefer a schedule and a set menu so that they can plan ahead, and others prefer the novelty of hearing the sound and chasing the truck when it randomly appears in their neighborhood. 

There is no “right” answer on the best approach for the ice cream truck, just as there is no “right” answer to a lot of things. And, as we talked about two weeks ago, depending on who we ask, the definition of “right” might vary (a lot). 

The continuous practice is to remain curious and open.
